ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Northern Maritime Museum in Groningen commissioned this series. They asked some artists to show their view of a particular lake in Groningen, The Netherlands. I made a photographic triptych in which I try to draw a line between the past and present. By using a pinhole camera and long exposure times, I tried to visualize the passage of time in a subtle way.

In the triptych in which the rising moon, sunset and sunrise play an essential role, you see the present and the past at the same time as a compressed reality.
I chose to photograph quiet moments and let the light slowly affect the film. These are moments when you forget the approaching city and human interventions. You feel a connection with the past. The sun and the moon have always been there, and nature has remained.
