The Blue Boat
Together with poet Tsjead Bruinja, I spent several days aboard a historical ship. Along with 17 other vessels, artists and poets sailed as pairs as part of a cultural initiative organized in collaboration with the poetry festival ‘Dichters in de Prinsentuin’. Our assignment was to draw inspiration from the water, the journey, and from each other.
This journey could be seen as a modern interpretation of the medieval Ship of Fools; here, artists and poets sailed together to surprise one another with fresh perspectives. The poems and artworks created during the trip were exhibited upon arrival at ‘Galerie Sign’. After some refinement, a book titled The Blue Boat was published a month later.
Tsjead Bruinja wrote a narrative poem about our journey, capturing the essence of the experience, while I photographed the trip and portrayed the poet. The project explores the interplay of art, poetry, and the natural world, capturing themes of reflection, the passage of time, and the fleeting nature of moments experienced along the journey.
